The Ultimate Fighter 11: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz Episode 8 Recap
The eighth episode of The Ultimate Fighter 11: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz premiered on Wednesday, May 19, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Spike TV.
The show kicks off with Kyacey Uscola talking on the phone with his wife about his newly born son.
The wild card fight between teammates Kyacey Uscola and Kris McCray is coming up next.
The first round kicks off with both fighters are exchanging on the feet. Uscola connects with a leg kick that causes McCray to scream in pain. Uscola quickly gets close and the two clinch. McCray gets Uscola on the fence. He lands an illegal knee to Uscola’s groin. The ref steps in, warns McCray, and separares the two. They start exchanging strikes and McCray manages to slam Uscola down. McCray is controlling Uscola on the ground and the round ends.
Round two begins and Uscola gets McCray on the fence. McCray gets a takedown and is able to lock in a keylock that forces Uscola to tap out.
McCray is the winner by submission in the second round.
It’s time for the quarterfinal fight picks. Dana White sits down with Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. The three argue about the match-ups and White tells them that he will figure it out on his own.
The two coaches and teams gather in the training center for White’s announcement of the quarterfinal bouts. The four fights White announces are Nick Ring vs. Court McGee, Kyle Noke vs. Kris McCray, Brad Tavares vs. Seth Baczynski, and Jamie Yager vs. Josh Bryant.
Back at the house, Forrest Griffin visits the fighters and brings along the UFC Undisputed 2010 video game. They are all playing the game and raving about it.
Ring visits with the doctor and is told that he has a torn ACL and may be needing an ACL reconstruction for the third time. Ring is not sure whether he should continue fighting in thethe competition or leave the show and undergo the surgery immediately.
White makes his way to the house and has a talk with Ring about his knee injury. Ring tells White he is unable to continue in the competition. White reveals the news with the rest of the fighters and says he will speak with the coaches to decide which fighter will return to the competition.
Hammortree goes up to White and says that he checked with the doctors and learned he is not injured. He tells White he wants to fight. White then goes right back into the house and announces to the fighters that he chosen Hammortree to return. Henle is upset with White’s decision and tells White that if one of the fighters cannot continue in the competition, he wants to take their place.
Hammortree and McGee step on the scales and they both make weight. The match between the two fighters is next.
Round one is underway and they are trading strikes on the feet. McGee catches a leg kick from hammortree and grabs him. He pushes Hammortree on the fence and gets a takedown. Hammortree stands back up. McGee gets another takedown, but Hammortree manages to again get back to his fet. Hammortree gets a takedown of his own. McGee reverses him and gets top position. The round comes to a conclusion.
Round two begins and Hammortree shoots in for a takedown. McGee sinks in a guillotine and Hammortree taps. McGee wins by second-round submission.
