The Ultimate Fighter 11: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz Episode 5 Recap
The fifth episode of The Ultimate Fighter 11: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz premiered on Wednesday, April 28, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Spike TV.
The two teams arrive at the training facility for the next fight announcement. Ortiz, now in control of the picks, matches up Kris McCray with Josh Bryant. A segment of each team’s training session is then shown.
McCray and Bryant step on the scales and both make weight at 185 pounds.
Clayton McKinney, who fought and lost in the quarterfinals, went to get surgery for a shoulder injury. Ortiz apologizes for not believing he was hurt and pushing him past the limit, but McKinney flips Ortiz off after he turned around.
Next up is the fight between McCray and Bryant.
Round one begins with McCray landing some good strikes on Bryant. He attempts a few takedowns, but Bryant does a good job of immediately standing back up. Both fighters exchange knees to the body. Bryant goes for a takedown, but is not able to get it. The round ends.
The second round starts off with the McCray and Bryant trading shots on the feet. Both fighters looked gassed. Bryant brings the action to the ground. He makes an attempt for a Kimura, but is unable to lock it in. The fight goes back to the feet and Bryant connects with several strikes. McCray then takes him down and the two throw shots on the mat. The round concludes with McCray setting up an armbar, which he is not able to get on Bryant.
The judges declare the match a draw, so it’s time for a third round. The fight goes to the cage, and Bryant tries for a takedown. McCray defends it and lands a few strikes. Bryant again attempts a takedown, but is unsuccessful. The referee breaks them up, and both fighters begin throwing wild punches, with Bryant landing the better strikes. McCray goes for a takedown, Bryant defends it and ends up in side control. He transitions to full mount, and then takes his back to sink in a rear-naked choke. McCray gets out of the choke and the round ends.
All three judges award Bryant with a unanimous decision win.
Bryant calls it the best win of his career thus far. McCray admits he could have been more technical during the fight. Ortiz says although he is upset he will never give up.
This is the fourth win for Team Liddell, and they have now regained control for the choosing the next fight.
