Machida Talks Rematch With Shogun

Following UFC light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida’s controversial win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 104 in October, the UFC didn’t hesitate to immediately book a rematch. While most believed Rua should have gotten the nod, Machida believes the decision was justified and is looking to make a statement in the second fight.

He recently spoke to Tatame about his training camp leading up to the match-up.

“I’m training since December for this fight,” said Machida. “We’re focusing each part of the game every training. Now we’re doing a lot of specific training and, of course, fighting him for the second time we know more about each other.”

Although Machida has an idea what to expect from Rua, he’s not counting on the first fight to devise his strategy.

“We’re trying to forget it. It’s a new fight. Shogun is a very eclectic fighter, he has this capacity of changing. I’m focusing some aspects and we don’t know what’s gonna happen.”

Machida and Rua will be squaring off in the main event of UFC 113 on May 8 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
