UFC Responds To Mir's Comments On Lesnar

The UFC released a public statement on Tuesday regarding Frank Mir’s recent comments on UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar. Mir said in an interview on WXDX radio in Pittsburgh that he wants to make Lesnar the first fighter to die from Octagon-related injuries.

“I was disappointed by Frank Mir’s comments,” said UFC President Dana White. “Frank’s been with the UFC a long time, he’s a two-time heavyweight champion and a commentator for the WEC. I think his emotions are running high right now, he has a big fight coming up next month and he’s still upset about his loss to Lesnar. He’s been talked to, he regrets what he said, and he won’t be saying anything like that again.”

Mir gave an apology in the statement for his remarks.

“I would like to apologize to Brock Lesnar, his family, the UFC and the UFC fans for my stupid remarks,” said Mir. “I respect Brock, all the other fighters, and the sport of mixed martial arts. I’m sorry that I stepped out of line.”

The bad blood between Lesnar and Mir has been brewing ever since their first match-up at UFC 81 in February 2008, which Mir won by submission. The two heavyweights met in a rematch last July at UFC 100, where Lesnar got his revenge with a TKO win.

If Mir can get past Shane Carwin at UFC 111 on March 27 and come out of the fight without any serious injuries, then he will have his rubber match with Lesnar in the summer.
