Paulo Thiago Not Ready For Title Shot, Talks GSP
Paulo Thiago burst onto the UFC scene with a knockout over Josh Koscheck in February 2009 at UFC 95. He most recently defeated Mike Swick by submission at UFC 102 this past February, establishing himself as a possible contender in the 170-pound division.
Despite his success thus far, Thiago feels he is not yet ready for a title match.
“I’m not worry about it yet,” Thiago told Tatame. “On the right time UFC will give me the chance. I’m getting experience, feeling more comfortable. I’m not ready yet.”
He also gave his thoughts on a strategy for welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre.
“St. Pierre is very smart, it’s going to be a chess game. Who gets calmer to annul the game of the other, takes it. He works a lot the takedown defense, the ground, the guard… You have to exchange with him, be aggressive. There are a lot of ways to study.”
With a few more wins, Thiago will likely receive his opportunity at the welterweight title.
