Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves Official For UFC 111 On March 27
The UFC recently made a welterweight contest between Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves official for the UFC 111 card.
The two fighters previously met in June 2006 at UFC Fight Night 5, where Fitch won by knockout in the second round.
After suffering the loss, Alves (16-6) went on a tear, winning seven fights in a row. His streak came to an end at UFC 100 in July 2009, as he lost to the 170-pound title holder Georges St. Pierre by unanimous decision.
Similarily, Fitch (21-3, 1 NC) challenged St. Pierre for the title in August 2007 at UFC 87, losing by unanimous decision. He has since managed to put together a three-fight win streak.
UFC 111 is scheduled for March 27 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The event features a welterweight title main event between champion Georges St. Pierre and Dan Hardy. Also, Frank Mir and Shane Carwin will square off for the interim heavyweight title in the co-main event.
