The WEC officially announced on Monday that a WEC lightweight title unification fight between champion Jame Varner and interim champion Ben Henderson has been set to take place at WEC 46 on January 10 in Sacramento, California.

Varner hasn’t fought since a split decision victory over Donald Cerrone at WEC 38 in January. He was unable to compete throughout the year due to injury.

“He’s a tough dude,” said Varner. “But I’m the champion for a reason. I have nothing but confidence going into this fight. I don’t think Ben poses any challenges or threats that I haven’t seen before. I’m ready to show the world that I’m still the true champion in this division.”

Henderson recently competed at WEC 43 in September, defeating Donald Cerrone to attain the interim lightweight belt.

“I think Jamie and I match up pretty well,” said Henderson. “He’s a good boxer and a tough fighter, so I’m ready to wage war with him. I’m ready to leave it all in the cage and win the undisputed championship.”

The WEC also officially announced a featherweight fight between Urijah Faber and Rafael Assuncao for the event.
