Kim Couture and Lisa Varon (Formerly Known as Victoria in the WWE) Say Recent Pro Wrestling Altercation Was Real
Female mixed martial arts fighter Kim Couture and female pro wrestler Lisa Varon recently got in an altercation at a TNA pay-per-view event.
They both recently told MMA FanHouse that the incident was indeed real and not scripted.
Varon, who was formerly known as Victoria in the WWE, currently wrestles in TNA under the name Tara. She has been training for her MMA debut and, this past summer, challenged Couture for her first match.
TNA invited Couture to attend its Bound for Glory 2009 pay-per-view event on October 18 to set up a staredown with Varon, but Couture didn’t arrive early enough to allow the creative team to plan it out.
However, Varon fell near Couture’s ringside seat during her pro wrestling match, and Couture slightly shoved her, which caused a brief altercation that was broken up by security.
Couture said, “She turned around and came at me. I’m not just going to stand there and look dumb. I didn’t know what she was going to do. So I kind of grabbed a hold of her, and it seems like as soon as we put our hands on each other security broke us up. I don’t know if she was in character or if it was adrenaline. I don’t know what it was.”
She then added, “I think it’s funny that she hasn’t even had an amateur fight yet, and she wants to call me out for her first fight. Normally, I’m pretty quiet, but I spoke up and said a few things over the past month. If she’s crazy enough to get in there with me for her first fight, then great.”
Varon said, “I think she didn’t know what to do, but I felt a shove behind me. At first I thought, ‘Was that a fan or what?’, because they’re not supposed to touch us at all. I turned around, because that doesn’t happen, and I just went after her. I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I’m a very friendly person, but you just don’t invade my space kind of thing. You just don’t put your hands on me.”
Strikeforce has been in talks with Varon about possibly setting up a match between the two sometime in the future.
Varon will be in attendance at Couture’s upcoming fight against Kerry Vera on November 20 at the Strikeforce Challengers 5 event, which takes place on November 20 in Kansas City, Kansas.
