Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva Nominated for 2009 ESPY "Best Fighter" Category

UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva have been nominated for the 2009 ESPY “Best Fighter” category. The two current UFC champions will be going up against pro boxers Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley.
In 2007, Randy Couture and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson were the first MMA fighters to be nominated for the ESPYS “Best Fighter” category, although neither won the award. In 2008, Georges St. Pierre was nominated, but he also did not win. It will be interesting to see if Machida or Silva can be the first MMA fighter to win the award this year.
The 2009 ESPN ESPYS Award show will be taped live at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California, on Wednesday July 15. The show will then be televised Sunday July 19 on ESPN/ESPN HD at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
